This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Participants must be able to complete the practical demonstrations for the course, including wearing suitable identification, assisting occupants, using communications systems, commanding, controlling and coordination of facility emergency response procedures.
Pre-course study: Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.
Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions

Students are required to complete a self evaluation against the following core skills as part of the enrolment process. This will allow your trainer to understand any additional support that may be required during the course delivery and assessment.

Commonly known as the Warden and Chief Warden Course, this combined training equips participants with the knowledge and leadership skills required to manage facility emergencies confidently and effectively. Delivered onsite at your workplace, or at our Tomago training centre, this course supports businesses across Port Stephens, Maitland, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Valley. Our trainers bring real frontline experience from emergency and clinical settings, so you're learning from people who've genuinely led emergency response.
Participants learn how to command, control and coordinate emergency response procedures, ensure occupant safety, and liaise with emergency services in accordance with Australian Standards AS 3745 and AS 4083.
This course is ideal for members of a workplace Emergency Control Organisation (ECO), including Chief Wardens, Deputy Chief Wardens and Communications Officers, as well as anyone responsible for emergency preparedness or facility safety planning.
Training covers a wide range of emergency scenarios and teaches participants how to:
Apply WHS and OHS requirements in emergency contexts
Lead and support building occupants during an evacuation
Use communication systems and provide clear, calm instructions
Interpret emergency control indicator equipment, including fire indicator panels and building management systems
Assist emergency services, manage post-incident activities and contribute to facility emergency planning
We also work with larger teams and corporate groups, training wardens together at our Tomago facility, or on-site at your workplace. It's an efficient way to build a genuinely capable, confident response team.

Since PUAFER006 requires PUAFER005 as a prerequisite anyway, doing them as a set in one session is generally more efficient than running two separate training days for the same people.

Usually just your Chief Warden and Deputy Chief Warden need the combined set, general floor wardens typically only need PUAFER005 on its own.

It's a solid starting point for your leadership roles, but you'll also want your broader team of floor wardens trained separately in PUAFER005, and depending on your site, PUAFER008 or CPPFES2005 for anyone expected to use firefighting equipment directly.
